When I attended the funeral mass for our relative who died on Christmas Day, I was struck by what the priest said. He told the family that Jesus Christ also came to their household on Christmas, but not as a cute and cuddly baby, but as a crucified and dying man. Yet, still the same God who became man to save us from sins. What a realization. I've always associated Christmas as fun, happy, festive but not gloomy and dark. As if death could never ever come and has no right to come on this supposedly happy day. And yet it did. Actually it can come anytime.
My bestfriend is celebrating her birthday today but how can we be happy and celebrate when her aunt is presently lying in state? It is hard to celebrate the gift of life during a time of mourning. I remember years back when my grandmother died 3 days prior to her birthday so during her birthday, there was a cake on top of her coffin.
Talking about extremes at its finest.
